Experience Perlow Mapping and Design is an outgrowth of my passion for nature and conservation of natural resources. My interest in mapping began in Belize with the School for International Training while studying protected areas management in 2001. Maps, delivered to the Ministry of Natural Resources, played a crucial roll in allowing a conservation organization to use an adjacent section of national forest as a linkage corridor between two other protected areas. The power of these maps helped reestablish a national forest boundary that was encroached upon by a local citrus baron, exemplifying how technological tools can enhance effective communication resulting in positive outcomes. Inspired, and interested in the role of mapping in both science and policy, I returned to Middlebury College in Vermont to complete my bachelor's degree in environmental studies. Additionally, I began my formal training in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and learned to integrate mapping into a variety of other applications ranging from conservation biology to public health. Now, with over 5 years of mapping and cartography experience, working with a wide range of organizations including; Forest Watch, The Nature Conservancy, Lake Champlain Basin Program, Orion Magazine, The Conservation Fund, Desert Research Institute, and Integrated Environmental Restoration Services I have started this company to provide custom mapping, design, and information solutions to organizations and business. We specialize in Custom GIS and Cartography and also offer related services such as GIS trainings and workshops for those interested in bringing GIS into their organization or business.
